RCE-ESMO-ESO rare cancer patient advocates training course 2021 virtually took place over multiple days, from 14 January to 21 January. Throughout several sessions the participants were informed about the latest update on Rare Cancers on the EU Agenda and the attendees had the opportunity to participate to the Patient Cafés focused on COVID-19 and rare cancers, patient involvement in clinical trials, patient involvement in clinical registries, and patient involvement in tumor banks. .

Session 1: Rare Cancers on the EU Agenda
- Welcome and introduction to the ESO-ESMO-RCE Clinical Update on Rare Adult Solid Cancer training
- The new EU Agenda on Cancer and the role of the European Reference Network EURACAN
- The role of patients advocates to raise awareness on rare cancers
- How to develop a successful advocacy campaign
Session 2: COVID-19 and cancer: lessons learned, pathway for the future
Session 3: Patient involvement in clinical research was composed of three different sub-sessions of one hour each.

Patient involvement in clinical registries
Patient involvement in tumour banks
Like in the previous editions the Rare Cancer Patient Advocates Training Course 2021 was organised in synergy with the 5th ESO-ESMO-RCE Clinical Update on Rare Adult Solid Cancers.
