Professor Jean-Charles Soria has been appointed as General Director of Institute Gustave Roussy, in Villejuif, France, for a term of five years. He has assumed his responsibilities earlier this month.
According to a note released by the French institute, Soria will lead the preparation and introduction of a new Hospital Plan aiming to place the patient at the centre of the hospital approach, combine medical excellence with compassion, modernise the hospital stock in keeping with international standards, invest in digital and artificial intelligence contributions to health care, and reinvent and strengthen internal communication.
Dr Soria was a member of ESMO Executive Committee from 2008 to 2009. He was the scientific chairman of the ECCO-ESMO 2011 meeting that was held in Stockholm in 2011. He has contributed to over 340 peer-reviewed publications, including publications as first or last author in the New England Journal of Medicine, the Journal of the National Cancer Institute, and the Journal of Clinical Oncology. He was Editor-in-Chief of Annals of Oncology for the period 2014-2017.
