ESMO renews its support to World Cancer Day (WCD) joining the #CloseTheCareGap campaign led by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC). Spanning over three years, the campaign aims to address the barriers that prevent people worldwide from accessing the cancer care they need.
Committed to ensuring equitable access to prevention, treatment, support services and reliable cancer information, ESMO provides resources and opportunities to oncology professionals to address the care gap: the ESMO-Magnitude of Clinical Benefit Scale, with its scores integrated into the ESMO Clinical Practice Guidelines to facilitate improved decision-making regarding the value of anti-cancer therapies; research conducted by the ESMO Clinical Research Observatory (ECRO) to highlight and remedy the excessive administrative burden in clinical trials management; events for the oncology community to come together and share challenges and best practices – just to mention a few.
“Our commitment at ESMO is to support oncology professionals in taking care of their patients,” says Andrés Cervantes, ESMO President 2023-2024. “Equipping them with the knowledge to optimally manage the disease and providing the tools necessary to address health inequities and reduce the global impact of cancer is what we do concretely to close the cancer care gap, on World Cancer Day and every day.”
