This Symposium was initiated by recently established ESMO Personalised Medicine Task Force and organised as a part of the ESMO strategy to educate medical oncology professionals, clinical researchers and young physicians on signalling pathways in cancer.
This first in the series of such symposia has focused on the HER family of receptors across lung, breast and colorectal cancers. Starting the series with a topic on the membrane receptors was logical from the biological perspective, but there was also a strong clinical relevance for medical oncologists. There are still many common issues as well as differences in the topics presented and between the different patients settings, however all share a common feature reflected on same underlining pathway. It was a forward looking meeting created with an aim to bring to the ESMO community a new concept of education “on science behind” workshops in collaborative partnership with industry.
