Sarcoma & GIST 2018 followed a new format comprising back-to-back events
Preceptorship Course: Monday, 5 February 2018
One-day meeting designed to provide young oncologists with a brief outline of both STS & GIST. It could have been a first contact with these diseases for oncologists who were interested to know more about them and to have an introduction to the high-profile Conference in the two days that followed.
Advanced Course: Monday, 5 February 2018
One-day event offered an intensive discussion of a set of clinical cases of STS & GIST for professionals who are already familiar with these diseases. Attendees benefited from discussions about challenging clinical cases with specialists from both the EU and USA, leveraging the different perspectives and expertise across continents. This course was the ideal preparation for clinicians who joined the Sarcoma & GIST Conference, 6-7 February.
Main Symposium: Tuesday-Wednesday, 6-7 February 2018
The goal was to merge the clinical and the translational perspectives into a single high-profile educational event. It was a unique opportunity in rare cancers such as STS & GIST. The Conference is known as an excellent place for international networking and collaboration, featuring discussions with the key opinion leaders in the field.
Though it was deeply and convincingly multidisciplinary as all previous editions, the 2018 programme looked at the disciplines, one by one. The challenge, in fact, was to do so with a multidisciplinary attitude and preserving the biological/clinical integration which marks this event. A world-renowned faculty attracted an audience of experts in sarcomas, but also teached a lot to oncologists mainly dealing with more frequent conditions while also treating sarcomas within collaborative networks.
Accreditation
ESMO-MORA: The Main Conference programme has been accredited with 24 ESMO-MORA category 1 points accreditation. Recertification is necessary for medical oncologists to remain professionally certified by ESMO. It also guarantees that a certified medical oncologist has continued to update her/his knowledge and still possess the necessary skills and standards for the practice of medical oncology. Learn more about ESMO-MORA recertification.
CME: The ESMO Sarcoma and GIST Symposium 2018 has been accredited by the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME®) with 20 European CME credits (ECMEC®s). Each medical specialist should claim only those hours of credit that he/she actually spent in the educational activity.
Through an agreement between the Union Européenne des Médecins Spécialistes and the American Medical Association, physicians may convert EACCME® credits to an equivalent number of AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM. Information on the process to convert EACCME® credit to AMA credit can be found at www.ama-assn.org/education/earn-credit-participation-international-activities.
Live educational activities, occurring outside of Canada, recognised by the UEMS-EACCME® for ECMEC®s are deemed to be Accredited Group Learning Activities (Section 1) as defined by the Maintenance of Certification Program of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
The EACCME® awards ECMEC®s on the basis of 1 ECMEC® for one hour of CME with a maximum of 8 ECMEC®s per day.
