ESMO Expert Consensus Statements

The ESMO Expert Consensus Statement series of publications contain recommendations on well-defined, controversial or clinically relevant topics and are produced by 20-40 key experts in the field.

The publications tackle focused oncological aspects within a specific tumour type or across tumours. By addressing a more narrow topic than a traditional ESMO Clinical Practice Guideline, they offer an in-depth study of the field and provide recommendations that complement the latter, often in scientific or practice areas in which high-level evidence is lacking. Production of the ECS publications is based on a narrative literature review followed by iterative rounds of Statement production, Delphi-based voting and Statement revision that involve all experts until consensus is reached.
