Ziekenhuisnetwerk Antwerpen (ZNA)is a community-based general hospital in Antwerp, Belgium. Its activities are located at 15 campuses located in the Antwerp region.
Specialities
It has all diagnostic facilities related to cancer (radiological (CT-scan, MRI), nuclear imaging including PET-scan, guided biopsies, laboratories, molecular diagnostic centre, genetics).
It has a cancer centre with departments of medical oncology, haematology, radiotherapy, and surgical oncology (gynaecology, thoracic, neurologic, dermatologic, gastro-intestinal, urologic, plastic and reconstructive surgery).
There is an oncologic consultation, day care centre, radiotherapy department, a revalidation centre and a palliative care unit. The hospitalization department for oncology has 36 beds and the palliative care unit 12 beds.
Palliative and Supportive Care
Oncologic patients are cared for from diagnosis till the end of their life by oncologically trained medical and non-medical health care takers (physicians, nurses, psychologists, social workers, dieticians, physiotherapists, spiritual helpers) and volunteers.
Patients and their family have access to several supportive programmes (aqua gym, aromatherapy), organized meetings on specific topics (fatigue, pain, self image, mourning) and psychosocial support (individual and group counselling).
The oncologic centre participates in phase I, II and III studies.
Members of the centre are giving training to medical students, other health care professionals, patients and their family.
The centre participates in initiatives for cancer patients outside the hospital (Antwerp Cancer Centre for Information, Palliative Home Care Antwerp).
