University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust (UHB) is one of the largest teaching hospitals in England treating over 2.2 million patients each year. It includes the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham (QEHB), Birmingham Heartlands Hospital, Good Hope Hospital, Solihull Hospital and Community Services.
The trust has more than 2700 inpatient beds, over 105 wards and 145 day-case beds. The trust operates about 7000 outpatient and 300 community clinics per week. We also run several smaller satellite units, allowing people to be treated as close to home as possible.

Profile
Our department is staffed by a highly skilled team of oncologists, surgeons, nurses, and support staff who work collaboratively to provide comprehensive and compassionate care to cancer patients. We have a multidisciplinary team approach, where oncologists, surgeons, radiologists, pathologists, and other specialists collaborate to develop individualized treatment plans and provide integrated care to patients.
The outpatient departments manage hundreds of patients a day, offering clinics, systemic anticancer therapy, radiotherapy, and supportive treatments. We offer anti-cancer therapy to about 500 cancer patients per day across our sites.
The oncology ward has more than 100 speciality-specific beds. catering for oncology, haematology and transplant patients including a specialised teenagers and young adult cancer unit.
Our department actively participates in clinical trials and research studies to advance cancer treatment options. Patients have access to innovative therapies and experimental treatments through our research programs.

The trust is fully equipped with all the required services for oncology patients as laboratory, diagnostic and interventional radiology, surgical oncology, and radiotherapy, along with an emergency department, nuclear medicine, pharmacy services and intensive care units.
For all patients within Birmingham and the surrounding area, there is access to systemic anti-cancer treatment, radiotherapy, and supportive therapies, along with radical and palliative oncological surgeries and interventional radiology.
Palliative and Supportive Care
We understand that cancer treatment can be physically and emotionally challenging. To support our patients and their families, we offer a range of support services including symptoms management, physiotherapy, dietetics, psychological and emotional support, social support, occupational therapy, support groups and survivorship programs.
In addition to other support services as financial advice, help arranging a complex discharge, help accessing services at home or hospice care and support near the end of life.
Upon discharge, if required, referrals are made to the community palliative care service which offers the same level of support within a community setting.
