History
The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre in Liverpool (CCC-Liverpool) is one of the UK's leading specialist cancer hospitals, treating almost 40,000 patients a year and serving the 2.4 million people of Cheshire, Merseyside and Isle of Man. Our roots date back to 1862 and we have a proud history of research, pioneering new treatments and innovations in patient care. Patients are referred to us from across the UK and beyond.
Our main hospital is The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre - Liverpool, which opened in June 2020 offering superb clinical facilities and a supportive patient environment. Our unique networked model includes our cancer centres in Wirral (opened 1958) and Aintree (opened 2011), our clinics are in hospitals across the region and we also provide treatment at home.
Profile
Our patient care covers Cheshire, Merseyside, the Isle of Man, parts of Lancashire, north Wales and beyond, providing care to >2.4 million people in the North West region of the UK.
We have 1,800 staff with a good mix of internationally trained colleagues. Our hospital is based within Liverpool's 'Knowledge Quarter' next to the city's main hospital and university. We take pride in constantly being rated being one of the top hospitals in England in the NHS annual Adult Inpatient Survey.
Our centre delivers seamless care to our patients through collaborative working with regional hospitals alongside rapid diagnostic services. We were the pioneers for acute oncology and the delivery of chemotherapy at home in the UK, a model since adopted by other hospitals. We also deliver a community diagnostic centre for the NHS more widely and host the Cheshire and Merseyside Cancer Alliance and the Cheshire and Merseyside Diagnostics Programme.
