Profile
Oncology Services at SAIMS were established in 2011. The integrated cancer care centre provides holistic, culture-specific and age-appropriate care for paediatric, adult and elderly patients, including bone marrow transplant services for patients with haematological disorders. The cancer centre is equipped with state-of-the-art modern technology like digital PET with 160 slice CT, De Vinci Robotic surgical system, Bone marrow transplant unit, two IGRT-equipped machines - CLINAC DMX (Dual-energy photon & four electron energies with onboard imaging) and HALCYON Elite (single energy photon), Cobalt HDR Brachytherapy unit, Pain RFA machine (thermal, pulsed and cooled). The philosophy is to provide integrated patient and family-centric, affordable health solutions tailored to individual needs so that no patient is left untreated.

Palliative and Supportive Care
The department of Palliative Medicine at SAIMS provides holistic care for patients with health-related suffering regardless of diagnosis. For cancer patients, it is aimed at benefiting the patients right from diagnosis of cancer through their difficult journey in different phases of the disease, including end-of-life care. The department has an expert team for managing complex pain and other physical symptoms, malignant wound care, lymphedema care, stoma care, and psycho-socio-spiritual issues of patients and their families. The department aims to improve quality of life, shared decision-making, and continuity of care. In all situations, patients receive integrated cancer and palliative care with a focus on quality-of-life improvement strategies along with disease-directed treatment. The department has a daily Outpatient clinic, a 24/7 Emergency service, and an Inpatient ward with the option of respite care. The department has access to oral and IV opioid medication and interventional pain procedures for pain relief.
