History
In 1973 with the help of few doctors, social workers and philanthropists Dr Saroj Gupta started a 25 bedded hospital with the aim of serving ailing cancer patients mainly from the underprivileged sector. From there the Institute has now emerged as one of the comprehensive tertiary care cancer hospitals of Eastern India. This is a “NOT FOR PROFIT ORGANISATION” and people from different strata of the society get equal treatment. Amidst modern techniques, the lush green lawns, colourful landscape and toy train offer energy to the cancer patients undergoing painful surgeries and aggressive chemotherapy.

Specialities
- Surgical Oncology: difficult onco-surgery is performed on all specialities. Laparoscopic aided, operating Microscope, Intra-operative Ultrasound, Laminar air-flow (for bacteria free air), Harmonic scalpel, CUSA, Radio-Frequency Ablation are some of the modern techniques that surgeons employ
- Radiotherapy: cobalt units, 3D CRT Machine, dual energy linear accelerators, computerised brachytherapy provide high-quality radiation
- Medical Oncology: chemotherapy (short and long infusions), targeted therapy are being given by trained personnel on an OPD or IPD basis
- Haemato-Oncology: the bone marrow transplantation unit is a recent addition
- Radiology: A PET CT scan machine is due to be installed late this year

- Supportive therapy: for breast cancer patients, stoma care, speech therapy, psychiatric counselling, pain management, music therapy etc

Palliative and Supportive Care
- Outpatient dept. (OPD) runs 6 days a week
- 5 bedded inpatient department. Since inception in the year 1973, seeing the extreme and increasing demand for palliative care, we have now a 29 bedded ward with seminar room, cabins and care givers lounge
- Home based care is provided within a 25 km radius
- Morphine and most of the other supportive medicines are distributed free of cost
- Consultation is free
- Care is provided by trained doctors and nurses
- Backed up by full time medical social workers, psychologist, and support groups
- Regular workshops and seminars involving medical fraternity and community workers
- Interventional pain management is carried out by experts
