Specialities
The Hospice is a highly specialized place regarding symptom management, and in the first place, management of the pain. We consider the patient as one person and not a bed number. We provide a small and comfortable environment within single and personalised rooms, and the creation of "reception spaces" for the family members, allowing respect for privacy and attention to basic needs. It is a place where psychological needs are protected, of "security" and of "belonging" to one's own family unit, ensuring a high quality of medical and nursing assistance and authentic human relationships, indispensable to encourage the maintenance of a dignified quality of life.
Palliative and Supportive Care
Assistance for the dying is agreed within the multidisciplinary team, with consideration for the complexity of the problems, above all psychological and ethical.
The group of nurses, given the frequency and the intensity of contact with the dying, count on the support of other professionals, in the first place the doctor and the psychologist, discussing and settling, by mutual agreement, the essential principles to be followed, in the interest and respect of the majority quality of life desired for the patient.
The needs of the dying person do not differ from those of any patient, but in the dying they are more intense, and their satisfaction cannot be postponed in time. Because of this, importance is placed on the state of health and satisfaction of physiological needs, and above all, on feelings of security, love, consideration and self-realisation, working towards Maslow's hierarchy of needs.
The goal of assistance in this phase of life is to propose to the patient an atmosphere in which a serene death is possible, where they are free from pain though remaining conscious and possibly also able to communicate.
