History
The Sant’Anna Clinic, founded in 1934 by the Sant’Anna nuns’ community, is located in Sorengo, on one of the hills around Lugano, Switzerland. Since 1995 the Sant’Anna Clinic has belonged to the Ars Medica Group and specializes in women’s health, internal medicine, oncology, general surgery, plastic surgery and hand surgery. In 2012 Genolier Swiss Medical Group acquired the Clinica Sant' Anna and the Clinica Ars Medica (GSMN Ticino).
Profile
The department of Oncology is situated in a general Clinic, where there are different departments such as general surgery, gynaecology, obstetrics, orthopaedics, plastic surgery, internal medicine. The radiology department is equipped with an MRI, CT scan, ultrasonography and a breast unit with computerized breast biopsy device (Vacora). There are 14 beds dedicated to oncologic patients, partly hospitalized for acute medical problems (chemotherapy or complications, diagnostic purposes) and for purely palliative scopes and end of life accompanying. The rooms are either two or single bed. The whole GSMN Ticino has 155 beds.

In the clinic following departments are present: hand surgery, plastic surgery, gynaecology and obstetrics, general surgery, orthopaedics, medical oncology, radiology, reproductive medicine.
Palliative and Supportive Care
The oncology team is comprehensive of four medical oncologists-haematologists, two palliative cancer physicians and one registrar. There are 14 beds dedicated to oncologic patients, partly hospitalized for acute medical problems (chemotherapy or complications, diagnostic purposes) and for purely palliative scopes and end of life accompanying. Palliative services include a dedicated medical doctor and two dedicated nurses, who are especially active outside of the clinic, at the patient’s home. They closely collaborate with the oncology team at the clinic, where all the principal therapeutic decisions are being taken for in and out patients. Other important members of the team are the psycho-oncologist, the social worker and our volunteer forces, which include the coordinator and about 20 volunteers.
