History
The Northwest Hospital Group is a hospital organization with locations in Alkmaar, Den Helder, Schagen, Heerhugowaard, Texel and Limmen. The location Alkmaar is the center for trauma care for the region. At this location we also have an oncology center, a center for birth care, a cardiovascular center and a wide range of care around the musculoskeletal system. The Den Helder location is indispensable for basic acute (birth) care. With 770 beds, more than 4,500 employees and about 340 medical specialists, Northwest Hospital Group is one of the largest hospital organizations in the Netherlands. Northwest focuses primarily on the North Holland North region, an area with more than 600,000 inhabitants.
Profile
The Northwest oncology center is a state-of-the -art center, which provides patients with the most comprehensive approach to oncology treatment. There are fourteen tumour-specific working groups making treatment plans for all oncology patients in multidisciplinary oncology meetings. Patients with breast cancer are seen on three multidisciplinary (one-stop) outpatient clinics.
The oncology wards consists of 66 beds on two locations. A separate day care chemotherapy unit consists of 29 beds and chairs on two locations. Radiotherapie is located on the location Alkmaar, as well as our own cyclotron. Annually, approximately 3000 new patients are treated in the oncology center.

Palliative and Supportive Care
The palliative care team works under the flag of the Oncology center, but is also seeing patients with other diseases. The staff of this team includes one haemato-oncologist, one oncologists, one pulmonologist and six specialized palliative care nurses.
