Palliative and Supportive Care
With more than 400 admissions per month, integrated oncology and palliative care are provided by a fully organized Oncology Clinic, staffed by an interdisciplinary team of oncologists, internists, gastroenterologists, oncology surgeons, interventional radiologists, radiation therapists, anaesthesiologists, nurses and nursing assistants, psychologists, pharmacists, social workers, physical therapists, dieticians, spiritual care providers and administrative staff, all working together in order to accommodate patients’ needs on a physical, emotional and spiritual basis assuring the highest level of care.
The Clinic is dedicated in alleviating suffering, improving quality of life and assisting with the end of life treatment of those patients suffering from a life-limiting illness. These services include pain and symptom management, nutritional support, physical therapy and rehabilitation, home care support, psychological counselling and spiritual care. An oncologist is available on a 24hr basis, 7 days a week to provide proper oncologic care and updated evaluations when needed for palliative care patients. Quality control procedures have been established, in order to constantly improve the delivery of services and best accommodate our patients’ needs. Furthermore, the Clinic is a member of the Hellenic Cooperative Oncology Group (HeCOG) and employs a fully organized research department with research fellows, a data manager and a research nurse.
