History
Kurnool Medical College (KMC) & Government General Hospital (GGH) are located in Kurnool and were established in 1956. It serves the people of Rayalseema in the state of Andhra Pradesh, part of Telangana and Karnataka regions, catering to the health needs of a population of around 20,000,000. It is one of the oldest medical colleges in the state of Andhra Pradesh. It started with 50 MBBS seats and now has 250 seats. It is an institution established for teaching, research and patient care in the area of health. It spreads over 100 acres and has a 1,500 bed facility. The institution houses 1 administrative block, 3 medical college blocks, 1 nursing college, 15 hospital blocks, 3 accessory service buildings and 6 residential complexes. All types of medical, nursing and allied health science courses, covering all disciplines, are delivered on site.
Profile
The Oncology Centre is a 50 bed facility that treats all types of solid malignancies and paediatric malignancies. The centre is equipped with trained surgeons, radiation oncologists and clinical oncologists. The centre is equipped with operation theatres, radiotherapy equipment and a chemotherapy daycare facility. It is part of a 1,500 bed hospital, KMC & GGH. The Oncology Unit has expanded into a State Cancer Centre for the state of Andhra Pradesh, India, providing 120 bed state of art facilities. The Department of Radiotherapy has grown into a full-fledged cancer centre since the installation of the radiotherapy machine in 1985.
Radiation Oncology offers services to around 300 new cancer patients and around 4,000 patients on follow-up every year. Experts in the field of radiation oncology and medical radiation support the high patient inflow, delivering quality care to patients. The aim of the department is to deliver the best possible care to patients using all available resources.

Palliative and Supportive Care
In collaboration with Pain Relief and Palliative Care Society (PRPCS) in Hyderabad, the Department of Radiotherapy and Oncology at the Government General Hospital Kurnool established a Pain and Palliative Care Centre in May 2019. The unit is a 15 bed facility featuring 1 trained palliative care physician and 5 nurses who are trained in palliative care, along with 5 support staff and 1 driver for home care visits.
