History

The Ikazia Hospital, founded in 1965, is situated in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. It is located in a diverse cultural neighborhood and it welcomes all patients regardless of where they live. However, most are from the local community and the rural area, south of the city. The Ikazia Hospital contains 370 beds and is a medium hospital. Additionally, the Ikazia Hospital is a teaching hospital for the following specialties: Anesthesiology, Gynecology, Surgery, Internal Medicine, Gastrointestinal and Liver Diseases, and Clinical Psychology.

Profile

The Department of Medical Oncology and Hematology of the Ikazia Hospital consists of an oncology ward of 14 beds and a separate palliative care unit of 4 beds. A brand new outpatient oncology center opened in 2019. The concept of this center is healing environment and hospitality. The day care unit is part of the oncology center and consists of 6 beds and 10 chairs. Multi/interdisciplinary teams/tumour boards coordinate and control the diagnostics and treatment for our patients. During patients treatment there is special attention to treatment-related problems like the loss of appetite, due to damaged taste buds. We work together with a special chef to relieve such side effects. We also offer physical support and special support coaches for post-treatment problems.
