History
Emek Medical Center was founded in 1924 as the first hospital of Kupat Holim Clalit to serve pioneers in the Jezre'el Valley and has since grown into Northeastern Israel's most prominent medical establishment. Today it serves a diverse population of 700,000 citizens from varied ethnic groups and acts as a referral center for specialized treatments for citizens from all over Israel. Emek is a renowned academic & teaching institution closely affiliated with the Rappaport Faculty of Medicine of the Technion Institute of Technology. In recent years, many new immigrants from the Former Soviet Union and Ethiopia have settled in the area and are closely linked with Emek. Emek's 26 departments, 588 beds, intensive care units, outpatient clinics and modern laboratories form the infrastructure of the hospital, enabling the center to provide a full spectrum of medical services. Emek is the first hospital in Israel to receive the prestigious JCI international accreditation for the highest standards of healthcare and patient safety.
Profile
Establishing a comprehensive and advanced Cancer Center has been our vision and dream for more than 10 years. This dream will now become a reality - under one roof and in accordance with the highest international standards. The new Beit Shulamit will offer modern treatment of malignant diseases that require collaboration between different disciplines; surgeons, oncologists, imaging experts, interventional radiologists, experts in the field of pain management, palliative care specialists - together with other health professionals; psychologists, nurses and social workers with an emphasis both on diagnosing & treating malignant diseases while focusing on the healthy aspects and wellbeing of patients and their families.
Research is the true pathway in the quest for more knowledge and innovation in medicine and a Research Center in the Cancer Center will be the optimal platform for collaboration between clinicians and researchers. The new Cancer Center in EMC, affiliated academically with the Technion will be the only such Center in the North and it will raise the level of EMC and help strengthen Northern Israel.
Specialities
The hospital offers a wide variety of specialized services and departments, including eight surgical departments, oncology-hematology services, emergency medicine, cardiology services, perinatal services, an impressive spectrum of pediatric services, superb orthopedics and unequalled gastroenterology excellence. Emek is the only hospital in Israel (and one of the few in the world!) to achieve "0" infections relative to 1,000 days of a central venous catheter (CVC) in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
Palliative and Supportive Care
The mission of the Palliative Care Service of the Emek Medical Center is to improve the quality of life of the patients and families facing serious life-threatening illness. The Palliative Care Service focuses upon treatment goals, symptom assessment and management, in response to the patient's physical, psychological, social, and spiritual needs. Our aim is to enable the patient to retain a life of dignity, quality and meaning, during all stages of his illness, and particularly at the end of life.
