History
Burjeel Cancer Institute (BCI) is a state-of-the-art cancer centre located within Burjeel Medical City (BMC) in Abu Dhabi, UAE. Established by Burjeel Holdings, a leading super-specialty healthcare provider in the MENA region, BCI is the hub of one of the leading cancer care networks in the UAE. The Institute offers a comprehensive range of specialised services, from diagnosis to treatment and palliative care, tailored to meet the diverse needs of cancer patients. Annually, BCI serves over 5,000 oncology patients, conducts more than 10,000 screenings, and performs over 10,000 radiotherapy sessions, all supported by the expertise of over 50 specialists with extensive experience in oncology. The Institute’s commitment to holistic, patient-centric care includes treatment, prevention, early detection, and education, setting the highest standards in patient outcomes and treatment quality.
Profile
The Institute is the only facility in the UAE with Novalis-accredited SRS technology for linear accelerators and offers a wide array of cancer services under one roof. It is the first centre in the UAE to specialise in palliative care services and bone marrow transplant services. BCI’s operating theatre suites span 3,000 square meters and include a specialised MRI brain suite for brain cancer surgeries. The Institute is the only centre in the UAE that provide PIPAC in addition to HIPEC surgeries in the context of a multidisciplinary team approach. The Institute also enhances diagnostic precision through OncoHelix-CoLab, that conducts specialised tests, leveraging advanced technologies like Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) and Droplet Digital PCR. BCI is committed to research and education, offering exceptional training programs for future cancer researchers and clinicians. It is one of the leading publishers of cancer research in the UAE. BCI has been home for multiple FDA approval trials in the recent years.

BCI is at the forefront of implementing advanced oncological transplantation procedures in the UAE, offering hepatic transplantation for patients with primary hepatocellular carcinoma, metastatic colorectal carcinoma with hepatic involvement, and metastatic neuroendocrine neoplasms affecting the liver. This comprehensive transplantation program addresses both primary and secondary hepatic malignancies, providing crucial therapeutic options for patients with otherwise limited treatment alternatives. BCI is committed for training and education and planning to launch it is first fellowship program in oncology in 2025 to be one of the first accredited oncology training programs in the UAE accredited by National Institute of Health Sciences in the UAE.
Palliative and Supportive Care
Palliative and supportive care is seamlessly integrated into BCI, providing support at any stage of the cancer treatment journey. Services are available from the Emergency Room to outpatient clinics, inpatient wards, and long-term care units, including out-of-hours support. Palliative care patients, after stabilisation in an inpatient setting, can receive home care or transfer to the in-house long-term care unit. BCI works closely with interventional medicine to provide advanced pain management options and supports patients transitioning from acute hospital settings to community care. The Institute accepts referrals from across the UAE and internationally, providing end-of-life care for UAE nationals returning from treatment abroad.
