In 2019, the Spanish Society of Medical Oncology (SEOM) created the Mujeres por la Oncología Working Group (SEOM’s W4O) to establish a meeting point and share initiatives that contribute to improve professional development, regardless of gender, in line with what has been developed by ESMO and the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO).

SEOM’s W4O organises:
Research projects:
- a survey was run among SEOM members to find out their perceptions about possible gender inequalities and it determined, among other conclusions, that equal opportunity initiatives are needed to support the development and recognition of women's academic careers. The results were published in the article “Gender influence on work satisfaction and leadership for medical oncologists: a survey of the Spanish Society of Medical Oncology (SEOM)” in ESMO Open.
- Analysis to explore what activities promoting gender balance are carried out in Spain by Scientific Societies and the Pharmaceutical Industry, and to raise awareness about the importance of having a gender vision when launching any initiative (scientific study, meeting, congress etc).
