ESMO Resilience Task Force

Burnout is a significant concern for the oncology community.

There is growing concern that inadequate work/life balance and work-related stress can have detrimental effects on wellbeing, job satisfaction and potentially impact the quality of care to cancer patients. Burnout, resilience and wellbeing are increasingly recognised by individuals and organisations.

Following on from the ESMO Young Oncologists’ Burnout Survey, which highlighted the need to increase burnout awareness among oncology professionals, ESMO launched the Resilience Task Force to help understand risk factors, interventions and to develop solutions to help support the welfare of the oncology community.

Activities and Responsibilities

  • Evaluate burnout, resilience and wellbeing
  • Understand oncology professionals support needs
  • Develop measures and interventions to reduce burnout, improve wellbeing and support oncology professionals
  • Identify how individual and organisational solutions can be combined successfully to reduce burnout and improve wellbeing 

Structure

The Resilience Task Force was launched in 2020 and has a mandate of three years.
