General Description

The Avicenne teaching hospital is a part of AP-HP (Assistance Publique-Hôpitaux de Paris) hospital, located in Bobigny, Seine-Saint-Denis (93). It has a triple mission of care, research and teaching. It offers comprehensive care in all medical, biological, radiological and surgical specialties. It has a high-performance medico-technical platform and the latest generation operating theatres.

Expertise

The medical oncology department of the university hospital group is composed of an inpatient department, a chemotherapy day hospital and a consultation unit. It covers all medical treatments for cancer, i.e. intravenous and oral chemotherapy, immunotherapies, targeted therapies, hormone therapies and access to phase I-III therapeutic trials. It has state-of-the-art centres for the complete oncological care of patients, in particular in senology, gynaecology, thoracic oncology and gastro-intestinal cancers. We also dispose of an onco-fertility department, oncogenetic consultation center, onco-geriatric unit, a space of well being and an important offer in different supportive care (reiki, sport, auriculotherapy).

The oncology department of the Avicenne Hospital is composed of a 4 MD-PhD staff affiliated with INSERM-labelled research unit, and 5 hospital practitioners with complementary areas of expertise.

Facilities

We make it a point of honor to develop translational research programs, for a bench-to-bedside vision of a research-care continuum. Our clinical department is strongly affiliated with two team research units 1) EREN, nutrient epidemiology research team wich develop observational epidemiologic studies, interventional trials and meta-analyses to study the relationship between alimentation and development of cancer (which developed the Nutri-Score); 2) INSERM 942 unit "Cardiovascular MArkers in Stressed COndiTions" (MASCOT). Which local team derected by Prof. Bousquet, it is specialized in tissue analyses and preclinical animal models with 3 axes of research: a) to decipher the biology of brain metatasis, b) studying biomarker of resistance to anticancer drugs (including cancer stem cells) 3) studying the genetic links between cancer and inflammatory chronic disease. It has 23 members: university hospital teacher-researchers, Inserm researchers and university engineers. It has also transdisciplinary program research including medical doctors, biologists, chemists, physicists and pharmacists and mathematicians, and international collaborations (1 laboratory in Shangai University hematology institute, 1 laboratory in national K hospital in Ha Noi).

Geographically, our research units are located within the Sorbonne Paris Nord University and can be reached on foot in 5 minutes from the Avicenne Hospital: ideal place to combine clinical and translational fellowship.
