Dr Gioulbasanis achieved his Medical Degree in 1998 at the University of Thessaloniki, Greece.
From 2001 to 2004 he did a residency in Internal Medicine at the Dept. of Internal Medicine, “Elpis” General Hospital of Athens. In 2004, he did first a 7- month residency in Haematology, Dept. of Haematology St. Savvas Hospital, Athens and was then Research Fellow at the Dept. of Genetics.
In 2005 he was Research Fellow at the Dept. of Medical Oncology, University Hospital of Heraklion, and Resident in Medical Oncology, Dept. of Medical Oncology, until the end of 2008.
During 2008, for 6 months, Dr Gioulbasanis was also Clinical Research Fellow at the Dept. of Palliative and Supportive Care, Cross Cancer Institute, Edmonton, Canada.
In 2009 he achieved the Diploma of Medical Oncology (University Hospital of Heraklion, Crete, Greece).
From 2009, for 4 years, Dr Gioulbasanis held the full-time position of Medical Oncology Specialist, Department of Medical Oncology, University Hospital of Larissa – Greece.
Since April 2013, he has been the director of the chemotherapy department of Larissa General Clinic “E Patsidis”.
Dr Gioulbasanis’ research work focuses on nutritional status in lung cancer, correlation of clinical and laboratory parameters indicating malnutrition, inflammation, cachexia and clinical outcomes.
Dr Gioulbasanis is the coordinator of the “Palliative Care Guidelines” developed by the Hellenic Society of Medical Oncology, member of the “Board of Directors” of the Greek Society of Geriatric Oncology and a member of the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO), Member of the Greek Society of Medical Oncology, member of the Greek-European Society Parenteral Enteral Nutrition and of the Greek Society of Atherosclerosis.
He is a reviewer of articles for the following journals: Rejuvenation Research, Forum of Clinical Oncology, EMBO Mol Med, Br J Nutrition, BMC Journal, Nutrition and Cancer.
