The ESMO National Societies Committee is composed of representatives of the National Societies that ESMO has a relationship with. The appointed National Society Representative acts as a bridge between ESMO and the National Society and local oncology community to facilitate the exchange of information.
Structure
The ESMO National Societies Committee sits within the Membership Division of ESMO and reports to the ESMO Director of Membership. The Committee is composed of:
- the Chair, who is nominated by the ESMO Executive Board
- the officially recognised National Medical/Clinical Oncology Societies, that are invited to join by the ESMO Executive Board and are in turn represented by their appointed National Representative.
Terms of Office
National Society Mandates are typically for 4 years and are renewable.
The Committee Chair serves a two-year term which is renewable once.
National Society Representatives typically serve a two-year mandate, also renewable.
Main Tasks & Responsibilities
The aim of the Committee is to create an effective network of National Societies that is responsible for identifying common needs and key areas of collaboration between ESMO and the local oncology communities.
The appointed National Society Representatives (who are the Members of the Committee) act as the bridge between ESMO and the National Societies and are responsible for:
- advising ESMO about topics of relevance regarding the local situation
- keeping the National Society and local oncology community informed of ESMO activities of relevance
- facilitating the relationship with politicians, health authorities, media, patient advocacy groups and other national key stakeholders, as appropriate
- obtaining National Society endorsement of ESMO initiatives when requested e.g. Global Curriculum
