The ESMO EDEPT Task Force is a multidisciplinary expert group dedicated to early detection and prevention of cancer.
It aims to advance this field by bridging epidemiology, social sciences, cancer biology, personalised medicine, and clinical oncology. The task force focuses on producing high-quality scientific reviews, developing expert recommendations, and delivering targeted educational initiatives to advance research and support the integration of new early detection and prevention strategies into clinical practice.
Activities and responsibilities
- Conduct foundational reviews on early detection and prevention: Map and analyse the landscape of cancer early detection biomarkers and drug-based risk reduction strategies, identifying key gaps and opportunities.
- Develop expert recommendations: Create research methodology frameworks and consensus papers to guide study designs, endpoints, and levels of evidence for early detection and prevention interventions.
- Deliver educational initiatives on early detection and prevention: Identify training gaps and develop targeted educational offerings.
- Produce position papers on strategic needs in cancer prevention: Provide perspectives on key topics in the field.
- Foster scientific collaboration with key stakeholders: Engage with experts, researchers, and policymakers to drive impactful contributions in early detection and prevention.
Structure
The Early Detection and Prevention of Cancer Task Force was launched in November 2024 and report to the ESMO Executive Board.
