Pilar Garrido is a medical oncologist, associate Professor of Medical Oncology at Universidad de Alcalá, and Head of the Medical Oncology Department at the University Hospital Ramón y Cajal in Madrid, Spain. Responsible for the thoracic tumors research unit at Ramón y Cajal Research Institute (IRYCIS), she is leading a translational program in collaboration with other clinical and experimental biology cancer groups with a particular interest in multimodality management, predictive biomarkers, immunotherapy and new anticancer agents in lung cancer. Dr. Garrido is also actively involved in many phase I-III lung cancer clinical trials in that field.
Former president of FACME (Spanish Federation of Medical Societies), she was also the first woman President of the Spanish Medical Oncology Society. She currently participates on various national scientific committees and is engaged with Spanish National Political and Administrative Institutions.
ESMO Faculty for lung and other thoracic tumors, associate editor of Annals of Oncology, former member of the ESMO Council and chair of the Women for Oncology Committee, she also served as a member of the ESMO Fellowship Committee, Press and Media Affairs Committee, and the Leadership Generation Task Force.
Highly involved with patients’ associations, she is the Chief Medical Officer of the AECC (Spanish Against Cancer Research Foundation) where she also sits on the Board. She is also involved with the Spanish Association of Lung Cancer Patients (AeCAP), as a Scientific Committee member.
