ESMO for World Cancer Day 2023: Taking Action Together to Close the Care Gap
ESMO continues to actively support World Cancer Day (WCD), by joining the three-year #CloseTheCareGap campaign which aims to address the barriers that prevent people worldwide from accessing the cancer care they need.
Recognising that people are stronger when they are united, this year WCD 2023 calls on each and every one of us to unite voices and take action together to #CloseTheCareGap.
ESMO is painfully aware of the care gap that affects cancer patients globally, resulting in inequities in treatment, diagnosis, outcome, and support. As the leading professional organisation for medical oncology, the Society strives to raise awareness of the care gap, and to mobilise resources to support the oncology community in the fight against cancer - the second leading cause of death globally.
“Our commitment at ESMO is to support oncology professionals in taking care of their patients: equipping them with the knowledge to optimally manage the disease and providing the tools necessary to address health inequities and reduce the global impact of cancer is what we do concretely to close the cancer care gap, on World Cancer Day and every day.”
How is the ESMO community closing the care gap?
ESMO Members explain how, through shared determination to secure the best possible outcomes for cancer patients and collaboration, the ESMO oncology community is helping to close the care gap.
