Do you have a question about the ESMO 2024 General Assembly?

The General Assembly will be held on the occasion of the ESMO Congress 2024, on Saturday 14 September 2024 starting at 13:00 (doors open at 12:15), in the Cartagena Auditorium, Hall 7, at the Fira Barcelona Gran Via, Barcelona, Spain.

The agenda and motions are stated on the ESMO web page.

The Audited Annual Financial Statements and the Management Report are available to Full Members for onsite personal consultation exclusively at the domicile of the Society in Lugano from 23 August 2024 until 13 September 2024. Prior to the start of the General Assembly (from 12:15 CEST), Members will also be able to consult these documents onsite at the ESMO Desk located at the Cartagena Auditorium.

All members with membership fee paid as of the time of the General Assembly may participate. However, only eligible members attending the General Assembly in person may vote on the agenda items.

Members must be physically present at the General Assembly, virtual (online) participation is not possible.

As a rule, you can vote if:

  • You were a member on 1 January 2024
  • Your membership fee is paid
  • You are not a student member

Only Full Members whose membership rights are not suspended (due to non-payment of the membership fee in due time) and who were already a member on 1 January 2024 are eligible to vote (Art. 15 Para. 1 of the Bylaws). Please verify your membership status to see if you are eligible to vote, and if needed settle your membership fee before the General Assembly.

ESMO Full Members who were suspended members on the 1 January 2024 who pay the membership fee in full prior to the General Assembly may also be eligible to attend the General Assembly and vote.

  • Medical and Basic Science Students with ESMO Student membership are not eligible to vote (Art. 6 Para 1. of the Bylaws).
  • ESMO Full Members who have newly joined the Society since the 2 January 2024.

All members will have their badge scanned at the entrance to the General Assembly to determine if they are eligible to participate and vote. Any individuals leaving the room before the end of the General Assembly, will also have their badge scanned. 

Voting is carried out at the General Assembly, either by an open show of hands or by an electronic voting system.

The General Assembly called at least twenty days prior to the date of the meeting is quorate irrespective of the number of Full Members who participate by casting their vote (Art. 16 of the Bylaws).

For motions to pass there need to be more “Yes” than “No” votes cast, abstentions are not counted.

Members should cast a vote for each item. Abstentions will not be counted.

If you select to abstain from voting on an agenda item, your vote will not be counted.

Results of the vote will be communicated within five business days after the ESMO 2024 Ordinary General Assembly has taken place on 14 September 2024.
