Full Members with membership rights not suspended (due to non-payment of the membership fee pursuant to Art. 8 Para. 2 of the Bylaws) at the time he/she wants to cast his/her vote during the period between the opening and closing date of the initial voting period, AND who were a member (Full Member, including those with membership rights suspended due to non-payment of their membership fee or Student Member, see below) as of 1 January 2024.
You may therefore, also vote if you are a:
- Full Member who was suspended (pursuant to Art. 8 Para. 2 of the Bylaws) as of 1 January 2024, if you subsequently paid your membership fee within six months of its due date and prior to casting your vote before the closing date of the initial voting period or renewed your Full Membership after automatic expiration of your membership and prior to casting your vote before the closing dates of the initial voting period, OR a
- Student Member as of 1 January 2024, if you subsequently became a Full Member (with membership fee fully paid) prior to casting your vote before the closing date of the initial voting period.
Medical and Basic science students with ESMO Student membership are not eligible to vote in elections (Art. 6 Para 1. of the Bylaws).
ESMO Full Members who have newly joined the Society since the 2 January 2024 are not eligible to vote in the elections.
ESMO Full Members who were suspended members on the 1 January 2024 or became suspended members from the 2 January 2024 onwards, and who do not pay the membership fee in full and within six months of its due date and prior to casting their vote before the end of the initial voting period will not be eligible to vote.
Voting is carried out via the online electronic voting system within the myESMO area of the ESMO website. To cast your vote, you should click here to log in to your myESMO area and access the election voting page. You will also receive email communications which will contain a link to the electronic voting system which you can simply click on to access the voting system.
Members who are eligible to vote are asked to vote for one of the two candidates running for the ESMO Presidency 2027-2028 (President-Elect 2025-2026, ESMO President 2027-2028, Past-President 2029-2030). When accessing the voting system to cast your vote you will need to vote by clicking on the person you would like to elect. You also have the possibility to abstain from casting a vote. Once you have indicated your vote you should then submit your vote to have the vote officially recorded. Once you have submitted your vote you cannot change your vote or come back to the system.
The Electronic Ballot Vote is open from Tuesday, 28 May 2024 at 12:00 (noon) CEST (Central European Summer Time) and closes on Monday, 10 June 2024 at 12:00 (noon) CEST.
Yes, all votes are anonymous and it is not possible to detect who members vote for. We do, however, track who has voted or not, to ensure that only one vote is cast per member and to calculate the participation quorum.

Yes, ESMO members with membership fee paid and who were already a member as of 1 January 2024 as well as potentially eligible voting members will receive communications about the elections. Members who are not eligible to vote receive the communications to ensure they are informed about the elections. Potentially eligible voting members will receive communications throughout the voting period, however, must pay the Full Membership fee prior to casting their vote before the closing date. Once you have cast your vote, please ignore these messages.
Art. 17 Para. 2 of the Bylaws provides for a general minimum participation quorum of at least one thousand Full Members. This participation quorum is based on the number of votes (including abstentions) that are received by Full Members eligible to vote between the opening and closing date of the voting period. If the minimum participation quorum is not met by the closing date of the voting period, the President will inform the members accordingly, and no later than five calendar days after the closing date. The President will simultaneously call the eligible Full Members who have not yet cast their vote to do so by the closing date of an extended voting period of ten calendar days. In this case, the minimum participation shall no longer apply.
Only Full Members who were eligible to vote at some point during the initial voting period (i.e. were a member as of 1 January 2024 and whose membership rights are not suspended due to non-payment of the membership fee) and who have not yet cast their vote, will be eligible to vote during the extended voting period, provided they are not suspended at the time they want to cast their vote during the extended voting period.
All votes from the initial voting period are counted, members who already cast their vote cannot enter the voting system again.
The candidate who receives the largest number of votes will be appointed. Should the votes result in a tie, the President shall have the casting vote.
