Rocio Garcia-Carbonero is a medical oncologist with particular expertise in gastrointestinal neoplasias.

Dr. Garcia-Carbonero coordinates the Gastrointestinal (GI) Tumor Unit at the Hospital Universitario Doce de Octubre in Madrid, and is also an associate professor at University. She is actively involved in clinical and translational research, and is a member of the Scientific Advisory Group for Oncology (SAG-O) at the European Medicines Agency (EMA) since 2008.

Dr. Garcia-Carbonero’s major areas of research interest are the development of new drugs or therapeutic strategies in the field of GI tumours, particularly NETs, pancreatic and colorectal cancer, and the development of biomarkers of diagnostic or therapeutic interest in this field.

She has published more than 90 papers in peer-reviewed journals, as well as several book chapters. Dr. Garcia-Carbonero has been a member of the Executive Committee of the Spanish Society of Medical Oncology (SEOM), and is an active member of various scientific societies (ASCO, ESMO, ENETS, SEOM) and collaborative groups (EORTC, GETNE, TTD).

Since 2014, Dr Garcia-Carbonero has been a member of the ESMO OncologyPRO Working Group, ESMO’s scientific and educational portal for oncologists. She is a national leader in the field of neuroendocrine tumours, being the president of the Spanish cooperative group in NETs (GETNE) since 2011 and a member of the Executive Comittee of the European Society of Neuroendocrine Tumors (ENETS) since 2014.
