Dr. Ramón Salazar was born in Barcelona in 1969. He graduated in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Barcelona in 1994. He specialized in Medical Oncology in 1997, after successfully completing the four years MIR program at Hospital Sant Pau, in Barcelona. In 1999, he obtained the MD PhD degree at the Autonomous University of Barcelona.

Subsequently, he obtained a postdoctoral fellowship from the European Society of Medical Oncology (ESMO), which led him to hold a position as clinical research fellow at the Beatson Oncology Centre (Cancer Research Campaign), in Glasgow, for 2 years (1999-2000), under the direction of Prof. Stan Kaye, where he received formal and specific training in experimental research, clinical trials in Phase I and, more broadly, in the preclinical and clinical development of new drugs. At the same time, he completed a Master's course (MSc) in Clinical Pharmacology where he obtained, in 2002, the title of "Master of Science" in Clinical Pharmacology, from the University of Glasgow. He has also received training in neuroendocrine oncology at the University of Uppsala, under the direction of Kjell Öberg, who specializes in the treatment of neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) in short academic stays in Uppsala during 2003-2004.

Currently, he holds the position of Head of Medical Oncology at the Duran i Reynals Hospitaland Director of Corporate Research at the Catalan Institute of Oncology. In addition he is the current Coordinator of the Cancer Research Program ONCOBELL at the Biomedical Research Institute of Bellvitge (IDIBELL) and associate professor of Oncology at the University of Barcelona.

Dr. Salazar has served as faculty at the European Society of Oncological Medicine (ESMO) and of the Spanish Society of Medical Oncology (SEOM) for the last several years. He is also a member of the executive committee of the Spanish Cooperative Group for the Treatment of Gastrointestinal Tumor (Group TTD), member of research organizations in national (CIBERONC) and international networks (European Project Motricolor Horizon 2020) and founding president of Spanish Neuroendocrine Group (GETNE); He has been part of the executive committee of the ENETS (European Society of Neuroendocrine Tumors).

Dr. Salazar has published approximately 200 articles in peer reviewed medical journals, and has written numerous book chapters and monographs, as well as online informative content among which his personal blog www.tertuliasoncologicas.com stands out, where almost every day he comments information or relevant news about cancer, and publishes digital talks and conferences and informative content both for health professionals and society.
