Prof. Dr. med. Ralf-Dieter Hofheinz is currently the head of the Outpatient unit of the Mannheim Cancer Centre, at the University Hospital Mannheim. He is also a member of the of steering groups Colorectal cancer and Gastro-esophageal cancer and Quality of life / PRO within the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Internistische Onkologie (AIO), as well as a spokesman of the German Rectal Cancer Study Group and of the Interdisciplinary working group “Visceral-Onkologie” of the German Cancer Society. Prof. Hofheinz is also one of the authors of the ONKOPEDIA guidelines on “colon” and “rectal” cancer of the German association of hematology/oncology (DGHO).

In terms of research, since 1998 he has been Investigator/ Co-Investigator in numerous clinical trials phase I-III, as well as looking into multimodality treatment of gastrointestinal tumors, new drug development, supportive care, quality of life and PRO, music-medicine, medical history.

He is also a reviewer of many notable oncology journals, such as the N Engl J Med, Lancet, Lancet Oncol, J Clin Oncol, Ann Oncol, Br J Cancer, Int J Radiat Oncol Biol Phys, e.t.c. he has also published 285 original papers, 9 books and more than 50 book chapters.
