Mariana Malheiro

Mariana Malheiro has been a medical oncologist since 2017. In 2008, she graduated from the University of Minho.
Mariana pursued a rigorous Oncology Residency at Hospital São Francisco Xavier (HSFX) in Lisbon. During her residency, she received comprehensive training in diagnosing and treating various types of cancer, honing her expertise in providing exemplary patient care.
Recognizing the importance of advancing knowledge in cancer and thrombosis, Mariana actively contributes as a member of the Board for the Study of Cancer and Thrombosis (GESCAT). Through her involvement, she participates in cutting-edge research and works to enhance awareness of the impact of thrombosis on cancer patients.
In her unwavering commitment to pushing the boundaries of cancer research, Mariana pursued a Post-Graduation in Immuno-Oncology at Navarra University. This specialised program provided her with advanced knowledge and skills in harnessing the immune system's potential to combat cancer, fostering her ability to explore innovative approaches to cancer treatment.
She holds a prominent role as the Head of the Research Oncology Department at HSFX, leading a dedicated team of researchers in pioneering novel treatment modalities and personalized medicine approaches. Her leadership and expertise have been instrumental in driving progress and improving patient outcomes in the field of oncology.
In addition to her role in GESCAT, Mariana is an esteemed member of the Digestive Cancer Research Group (GICD). Collaborating with fellow experts, she contributes to advancing the understanding and management of gastrointestinal cancers, aiming to develop more effective strategies for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention.
Throughout her career, Mariana has been recognized for her outstanding contributions and dedication. Her unwavering commitment to providing compassionate care, coupled with her passion for research, has earned her the respect and admiration of colleagues and patients alike.
