Laura Mezquita MD, PhD, is a Spanish medical oncologist, with 12 years of experience in Thoracic Oncology. She is a Clinician-Scientist in Translational Oncology & Molecular Epidemiology working at the Hospital Clinic of Barcelona – IDIBAPS and Adjunct Professor of Medicine in the University of Barcelona. Between 2015 and 2020 she worked in Gustave Roussy (France), initially as a Research Fellow in Immunoncology followed by a 2 years period as a Clinical Fellow in Thoracic Oncology. Between 2018-2020 she was part of the Precision Medicine Group, responsible for the Molecular Tumour Board. In 2017, she completed her PhD on the impact of radon gas in lung cancer.
Since February 2020, she has been working as a Clinician-Scientist in the Medical Oncology Department at the Hospital Clinic of Barcelona and in the Laboratory of Translational Genomics at IDIBAPS (Barcelona, Spain). From September 2021, she has been an Adjunct Professor of Medicine in the University of Barcelona.
She is an international referee and peer-reviewer, author of 105 indexed articles with an H-index of 26. She has authored more than 140 communications in international meetings. She is a member of a number of international cancer association, including EORTC, ESMO and IASLC. She was selected for the ESMO Leaders Generation Programme in 2019 and is a member of the ESMO Faculty Metastatic NSCLC Group and the ESMO Leadership Development Committee. She was a member of the ESMO Social Media Working Group from 2020-2022. She is also the coordinator of the SEOM Environmental and Occupational Cancer Working Group. She participates in Scientific Committees and is an invited speaker at national and international conferences (ESMO, ASCO, WCLC, etc).
Dr Mezquita is involved in several clinical and translational research projects focusing on three main areas: a) biomarkers for immunotherapy, b) precision medicine and molecular characterization of lung cancer, and c) molecular epidemiology focused on carcinogens and genetics in lung cancer (particularly related to radon gas).
