Dr. Cataldo received her MD degree cum laude from the University of Catania, Italy, and completed her residency in Surgical Pathology at the University of Verona, Italy. During her residency she attended the cardio-renal laboratory at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota. She is currently finalizing her PhD in Inflammation, Immunity and Cancer at the University of Verona.
She has been involved in several international project and acquired a significant expertise in gastrointestinal and bilio-pancreatic pathology at the Department of Pathology of the University and Hospital Trust of Verona (center of excellence for bilio-pancreatic pathology and for neuroendocrine tumours).
She developed her skills in the field of molecular biology by participating at several project at the Diagnostic Molecular Pathology Laboratory of the University and Hospital Trust of Verona, officially recognised by the Veneto Government as one of two referral centers for cancer molecular diagnostics. She is actively involved in the Cancer Biobank Network Programme in the Veneto Region (Italy) and in European Union funded programme for the development of animal models to identify and validate novel potential therapeutical targets for pancreatic cancer.
Dr. Cataldo’s research activity is focused on the identification and validation of novel potential prognostic and predictive biomarkers for cancer. She is also involved in several international activities for the assessment and update of cancer diagnostic protocols and guidelines. Her major current project is focused on the molecular characterization of neuroendocrine neoplasms. She is consultant pathologist at General Hospital of Treviso, Italy since September 2016.
