Irene Moreno, MD, Medical Oncologist, Principal Investigator of START Madrid Early Drug Development Unit at the Comprehensive Cancer Center CIOCC, HM Sanchinarro, Madrid, Spain.
Dr Moreno earned her Medical Degree in 2011 at the University of Extremadura, Spain, after having done her 3rd year of medicine at the University of Salamanca (2007/2008) and her 5th year at the University of Careggi in Florence, Italy (2009/2010), as part of two international student programmes. She also spent the Summer of 2008 doing an internship at Agia Sophia Hospital in Athens (Greece) in the area of pediatric oncology.
After completing her medical degree, she spent two months doing a volunteership as general doctor in rural zones, in Zamora co., Ecuador. In 2017, she completed her training as a Medical Oncologist at the Fundación Jiménez Díaz Universitary Hospital, in Madrid, Spain. During her training, Dr Moreno had the opportunity to join the Lank Center for Genitourinary Cancer in “Dana Farber Cancer Institute”, Boston, USA (from April- September, 2016) as a clinical fellow, participating in some lines of investigation, especially in bladder cancer. After finishing her training she was offered to join for a year (August 2017-August 2018) the `Drug Development Unit´ in The Royal Marsden Hospital, based in Sutton, London, UK
Later she went back to Fundación Jiménez Díaz Hospital to work as a consultant in the genitourinary area, collaborating in several investigational projects.
Since January 2019, she has been working at START Madrid-CIOCC as Clinical Investigator at the Early Drug Development Unit. She has been involved so far in more than sixty phase 1 clinical trials; including First in Human trials, immunotherapy trials, targeted therapy trials, biomarker-driven trials, and trials in molecularly selected populations with special emphasis on sarcoma, genitourinary and head and neck tumours. She is currently also working on her PhD.
Dr Moreno has authored and co-authored several papers in peer-reviewed journals. She is a member of the European Society for Medical Oncology and the Spanish society of Medical Oncology.
