Hongcheng Zhu

Dr. Hongcheng Zhu is a clinical and radiation oncologist at Fudan University Shanghai Cancer Center, China. He earned his medical degree in 2013 and his PhD in 2017 in Nanjing, China. After joining Fudan University Shanghai Cancer Center, he completed residency in radiation oncology in 2019 and fellowship in 2023. Dr. Zhu was selected for Global Health Leadership Development Program by China Medical Board, which supported a one-year postdoctoral fellowship at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine in UK, as well as its sites in low- and middle- income countries. In October 2024, he began a clinical fellowship at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust, funded by the ESMO/ICF. His research focuses on global and radiation oncology, with a particular interest in thoracic cancers, including esophageal and lung cancers.
Dr. Zhu has an extensive publication record, including original research articles, reviews, commentaries, and book chapters. He serves as an associate or assistant editor for various journals and books, and has presented at numerous international conferences and courses. His research has been published in prestigious journals such as Lancet Glob Health, Cancer Lett, Int J Cancer, Inter J Radiat Oncol Bio Phys, Radiother Oncol, et al. He also holds editorial board positions for Radiother & Oncol, Transl Oncol, and reviews for journals including Lancet Oncol, J Thorac Oncol, J Immunother Cancer,et al. Additionally, Dr. Zhu leads several translational oncology research projects funded by various agencies and has actively participated in phase II and phase III clinical trials, including the ESO-Shanghai series.
Dr. Zhu's honors include Royal Society Sino-British Fellowship Trust International Exchanges Award (2024), IASLC International Mentorship Program Award (2024), and ESMO Clinical/Translational Unit Visit Fellowship (2024, 2018). He was also recognized with CSCO "35 under 35" Young Investigator Award in 2022 and graduated from the first cohort of ESMO Leaders Generation Program Asia in 2019. He holds a Certification of Advanced Studies in Lung Cancer from ESO and University of Zurich, and has served as a mentor in ASCO Journals Reviewer Trainee Mentoring Program (2022). Dr. Zhu is an active member of ESMO Young Oncologists Committee and Membership Committee, ASTRO International Education Committee, and IASLC Multidisciplinary Clinical Science Committee.
