Henk van Halteren is a general medical oncologist, who is currently working at the Admiraal de Ruyter Hospital, a general teaching hospital, which is located in the southwest of the Netherlands.

His hospital is cooperating closely with Erasmus Medical Center Rotterdam, which enables him  and his colleagues to offer almost all cancer care nearby to his patients.

As a general oncologist he strives to stay up to date with regards to the optimal treatment of breast, GU, GI and gynecological cancers.

Henk van Halteren is a true European, who has been working for ESMO since 2008. As a member of  the ESMO Publishing Working Group he supported the editing process of several ESMO handbooks.

Henk van Halteren is currently a member of the Oncology Pro Working Group and vice-chair of the ESMO Practicing Oncologists Working Group.

During his career, he has developed a special scientific interest in cancer cachexia, the relation between obesity and cancer (treatment), geriatric oncology and tumor microenvironmental issues , such as tissue hypoxia. Because of this he has (co) authored a wide variety of publications.
