Guido Van Hal

Guido Van Hal is a medical sociologist with a PhD in medical sciences (on breast and cervical cancer screening). He is a professor at the University of Antwerp, Belgium, Research Group Social Epidemiology and Health Policy, Department of Family Medicine and Population Health.
Professor Van Hal is working in the field of cancer screening (breast, colorectal, cervical and lung cancer) and is currently member of the Flemish Task Force for Lung Cancer Screening. He was promoter of the Flemish pilot trial for colorectal cancer screening and he is a member of the Flemish Task Force for Population Screening.
Professor Van Hal has been the promoter of several research projects on cancer screening such as GP target payment for breast cancer screening, non-participation in breast cancer screening, drop-out in breast cancer screening. He was involved in the EPAAC (European Partnership for Action Against Cancer) and he has also performed researches in tobacco prevention: cigarette plain packaging, 24 hours not smoking campaign and more. Funders of these studies were Flemish and Belgian as well as European authorities. He is a member of the Superior Health Council in Belgium.
Professor Van Hal was promoter of several PhDs on cancer screening and is coaching several PhD students across the world. He is author of more than 150 peer-reviewed publications.
