Dr. Giulio Metro is a staff physician in the Medical Oncology of the Santa Maria della Misericordia Hospital in Perugia, Italy. Dr. Metro is mainly involved in the treatment of thoracic malignancies, while his clinical research focuses on the mechanisms of resistance/sensitivity to anticancer therapies in non-small cell lung cancer. Dr. Metro’ area of interest includes also treatment of primary brain tumors, a field in which he is a clinical expert.
Dr. Metro has earned his medical degree and completed the postgraduate training in Medical Oncology at the University of Rome ‘La Sapienza’. After that, he worked as consultant in the Regina Elena Cancer Institute in Rome and attended a one year internship in the Thoracic Oncology Clinical Research Program at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Florida, U.S.A. (Director: Prof. G. Bepler).
Since 2003, Dr. Metro is member of ESMO (European Society of Medical Oncology), where he served as committee member of the ESMO Examination Working Group, and AIOM (Associazione Italiana di Oncologia Medica), where he holds the position of scientific secretary of national guidelines on lung tumors. Since 2012 he is a Professor of Medical Oncology in undergraduate course of biomedical laboratory techniques at the University of Perugia. In 2016 he earned a master degree in “Preclinical and clinical drug development: scientific, regulatory and ethical aspects” at the ‘Catholic University of Sacred Heart’ in Rome.
Dr. Metro has co-authored several publications in peer reviewed journals and has acted as co-investigator of a number of clinical trials exploring novel treatments for lung cancer.
He is Italian mother tongue and speaks fluent English.
