George Zarkavelis holds a MD degree from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (Athens, Greece, 2007). He specialised in Medical Oncology in Ioannina (Medical Oncology Clinic -University Hospital of Ioannina, 2017). He holds a Master’s Degree in Health Politics (2016). He has developed his PhD thesis on Liquid Biopsies in patients with metastatic colorectal cancer and successfully defended it in 2019. Since 2017 he has served as consultant at the Medical Oncology Clinic, University Hospital of Ioannina. Currently he is a post-doctorate researcher at the University of Ioannina, focusing on Liquid Biopsies and their application in patients with solid tumours. He is an extended member of the ESMO MCBS Working Group. He is also a member of the Hellenic Cooperative Oncology Group (HeCOG) and the Hellenic Society of Medical Oncology and has actively participated in clinical trials. His main scientific and research interests are gastrointestinal cancers, cancers of unknown primary and liquid biopsies in solid tumours. Dr Zarkavelis has participated in both national and international congresses either as participant or invited speaker. He has (co)-authored several PubMed-indexed peer reviewed papers.
