Etienne Brain has been working since 1998 as a medical oncologist at Institut Curie (Paris & Saint-Cloud, France). He obtained his MD in medical oncology from Paris-Descartes University in 1995, as well as a PhD in pharmacology (2005) after initiating (pre)clinical works on alkylation in US (Dana Farber Cancer Institute & Boston University 1995-1996). He got a diploma to supervise research (Versailles/Saint-Quentin University 2010) and in Management and Health Economics (Bocconi University, Milan 2014-2015, IT).

Etienne Brain has been strongly involved in breast cancer research since the early 2000s, with two main interests: (neo)adjuvant treatments and adjustment of strategies to the older population, taking into account the competing risks for mortality as best epitomized by the large phase III program ASTER 70s.

He is an active member in the Unicancer organization (breast cancer/UCBG and geriatric oncology/GERICO groups). He is the current Chair of the EORTC Breast Cancer Group. He is a board member of the Breast International Group/BIG and EBCC. He is also a member of the EBCTCG Steering Committee.

He is a Past-President of SIOG (International Society of Geriatric Oncology). Since 2014, he is the co-organiser of the SIOG International Course in Geriatric Oncology (Treviso, IT) with the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuoro.

He is (co)author of several publications in peer reviewed journals, including the JAMA, Lancet Oncology, Annals of Oncology and Journal of Clinical Oncology. He is a member of the Editorial Boards of the Breast and the Journal of Geriatric Oncology. He is an active member of ESMO and ASCO.
