Prof. Dimitrios Mavroudis graduated from the Medical School of the University of Athens in 1985 and completed an Internal Medicine residency at Hines VA hospital and Loyola Medical Center in Chicago, USA. He also completed a fellowship in Medical Oncology and Haematology and trained in Bone Marrow Transplantation at the National Cancer Institute of the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda Maryland. In 1997 Prof Mavroudis returned to Greece and has since worked at the Department of Medical Oncology of the University Hospital of Heraklion. Since 2011 he is a Professor of Medical Oncology at the Medical School of the University of Crete.
Prof. Mavroudis is a diplomat of the American Board of Internal Medicine and for the specialities of Medical Oncology and Haematology. He is a member of ESMO, ASCO, AACR and of the Hellenic Society of Medical Oncology (HeSMO).
He has been involved in clinical research as the principal investigator in many trials of the Hellenic Oncology Research Group coordinating the clinical research programme in breast cancer. Prof. Mavroudis has published extensively on the prognostic value and molecular characterisation of circulating tumour cells in breast cancer. He has also co-authored more than 200 articles and has served as reviewer for many prestigious journals.
