Dr Suárez is a medical oncologist and clinical investigator with special focus on kidney and bladder cancer within the Genitourinary, Central Nervous System (CNS) tumours, Sarcoma and Cancer of Unknown Primary Site Group, at Vall d’Hebron University Hospital, Barcelona, Spain.
Dr Suárez received her M.D. in Medicine and Surgery at the Autonomous University of Barcelona and she received a Specialist Training in Medical Oncology at the Faculty of Medicine, Autonomous University of Barcelona. “Hospital del Mar – Parc de la Salut of Barcelona.
In 2008, she joined the Oncology Department of Vall d’Hebron University Hospital as Physician (attending staff), of the Genitourinary, Central Nervous System, Sarcoma and Tumours of Unknown Origin Programme.
In 2018 she completed her doctorate studies and obtained “Cum Laude” qualification with the doctoral thesis: “Prognostic value of genetic alterations in the mTOR pathway of patients with metastatic renal cell carcinoma treated with mTOR inhibitors”.
Dr Suárez has been principal investigator and co-investigator in more than 100 clinical trials throughout her career, mainly in the genitourinary, brain and sarcoma tumour area, as well as phase I clinical trials. Research highlights include clinical development of immunotherapy in her area of knowledge. Some relevant studies in which Dr Suárez has had a relevant role include CHECKMATE-9ER, and KEYNOTE-427. One of her main areas of interest is biomarkers, and she has been involved in several biomarker studies such as the IMMOTION 151 and the CALYPSO trial.
She is also author and co-author of more than 100 scientific papers, in high-impact journals, such as The New England Journal of Medicine, Lancet, Nature Medicine, J Clin Oncol, author of posters and book chapters nationally and internationally, especially focused on the area of genitourinary tumours.
Dr Suárez is Vice President of SOGUG (Spanish Oncology Genito Urinary Group), and an active member of several oncology societies, such as ASCO, ESMO, SEOM. She has been Scientific committee member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), for the Genitourinary Cancer – Kidney and Bladder Scientific Programme Committee, over the past two years and is Member of the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) Faculty Group for Genitourinary Tumours-Non Prostate.
