Barbara Moss
United Kingdom
Barbara Moss is a patient advocate and is independently active with several patient organisations and institutions related to her advocacy.
In 2006, at the age of 52, she was diagnosed with Stage IV CRC and given a prognosis of only 3 months. When all hope was lost, she researched new drugs, asked for a certain medicine and this treatment saved her life.
She has since been an active campaigner, telling her story along with her husband, Mark. It hit National headlines in the UK as well as other countries. Her story was taken to UK Parliament, resulting in a change of law enabling easier access of certain drugs for patients.
Barbara has spoken to MPs in Parliament at Westminster and also at European Parliament on Fair Access to Medicine in Europe. She is called on in an advisory capacity from several organisations, including NICE and the EMA as Expert Patient. Her work as Patient Ambassador for Bowel Cancer UK extended into Europe and is now global.
Barbara has worked with Digestive Cancers Europe and Inspire2Live, Amsterdam for many years. She is keen on promoting prevention, access to medicine, patient empowerment and for information to be presented in ‘patient language’
Recent activities include work on value based pricing with the London School of Economics; the psychology of the cancer patient journey from diagnosis to empowerment and the true costs of late diagnosis. Barbara is actively involved with Continuum Life Sciences whose aim is to produce a vaccine to cure several cancers.
Barbara retired early from her profession as an English Teacher. However, she never actually stopped working as her cancer journey continues to open up amazing new experiences!
