Andri Papakonstantinou is a senior oncology consultant, post-doctoral researcher and head of the Unit of Breast Cancer, Endocrine tumors and Sarcoma oncology at the Karolinska Comprehensive Cancer Center, Karolinska University Hospital, and Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm, Sweden.

Dr Papakonstantinou comes originally from Cyprus, and she received her MD at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. During her studies, she held a yearly scholarship from the “Dr Lenas Loizou Kakkouras Foundation” in Cyprus. She holds a MSc in Clinical Trials from London University, International Programmes, and a doctoral degree (PhD) in breast cancer therapy toxicities, with focus on cardiotoxicity, from Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm, Sweden. Following the defence of her thesis in 2020, Dr Papakonstantinou was awarded an ESMO Translational Research Fellowship for 2 years, in the field of microbiome and cancer and she continued her postdoctoral research at Vall D´Hebron Institute of Oncology (VHIO), Barcelona, Spain, during this period. Since her return at Karolinska Institutet and Karolinska Comprehensive Cancer Center, she is a post-doctoral researcher in Associate Professor Theodoros Foukaki´s group, in combination with her clinical activities and involvement in teaching activities. In 2022 she was awarded a Post-doctoral Grant from the Swedish Society for Medical Research (Svenska Sällskap för Medicinsk Forskning, SSMF) for dedicated research time for the years 2023-2025. She is adjunct author in the Swedish National Guidelines Committee for Breast Cancer (cardio-oncology chapter), the chair of the National Guidelines Committee for extremities and bone sarcomas and leader of the oncology subgroup of the Scandinavian Sarcoma Group (SSG). Her clinical and research interests focus in breast cancer and sarcomas.

Dr Papakonstantinou has been actively involved with ESMO throughout her career. She has participated in ESMO courses and Preceptorships, she participated in the ESMO Virtual Mentorship in 2021, and besides her ESMO research fellowship, she participated in the ESMO Leaders Generation Programme in 2020. Dr Papakonstantinou is currently a member of the ESMO Public Policy Committee and the Practising Oncologist Working Group.
