Alba Brandes is the Chairman of Medical Oncology Department, AUSL – IRCCS Institute of Neurological Sciences in Bologna, Italy. She was the Head of Neuro-Oncology Unit in the Medical Oncology Department, University Hospital of Padova-Italy. In 1991 she gained the European Certificate of Medical Oncology.
On 2nd June 2001 Alba Brandes was knighted by the President of the Republic of Italy, being awarded the title Cavaliere della Repubblica for her activities in Oncological Research. In 2012 she received the Gruson Award in Neuro-oncology from the Columbia University-Cornell University.
She was nominated as one of the Top Italian Scientists 2016.
From 2002 to 2007, Brandes has been the Vice-Chairman of the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) Brain Tumor group.
She is the Chairman of the Gruppo Italiano Cooperativo di Neuro-Oncologia (GICNO) and has been the coordinator of more than 20 national and international research protocols on brain tumors. Brandes coordinates the National Guidelines for the treatment of brain tumors.
Brandes is a member of the American Society for Clinical Oncology (ASCO), the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO), the Society of Neuro-Oncology (SNO) and the Italian Association of Medical Oncology (AIOM). Since 2012 she has been a member of the ESMO CNS Tumours Faculty Group.
Her main areas of research and clinical interest are breast, lung, rare tumours and in particular brain tumours.
She also served as Editor of Expert Review Anticancer Treatment, Future Oncology, Clinical Practice, Oncology and Therapy, and as Senior Editor of CNS Oncology.
She has published more than 200 peer-reviewed articles, as listed in PubMed in addition to over 300 abstracts and book chapters.
