Rolf A. Stahel, M.D., is president of the ETOP IBCSG Partners Foundation. He is vice-president of the International Cancer Foundation. He is co-editor-in-chief of Lung Cancer and editor of Cancer Treatment Reviews. His major research interests are clinical and translational studies in thoracic oncology.
He was chair of the Comprehensive Cancer Center Zürich, co-chair of the Center for Lung and Thoracic Oncology and senior staff physician at the Department of Medical Oncology and Hematology, University Hospital of Zürich as well as Titular Professor of Medicine at the University of Zürich, Switzerland, until 2020. He was a founding member and the first president of the Swiss Society for Medical Oncology and founding member and first president of the Swiss Academy for Multidisciplinary Oncology (SAMO). He has served as officer in the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC) and the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO).
In the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) he served as National Representative for Switzerland from 1998-2004, he chaired the ESMO Task Force on Guidelines from 1999-2005 and the ESMO Educational Committee 2006-2011. From 2003 to 2017 he was a member of the ESMO Executive Board, serving as ESMO president 2014-2015. He is currently a member of the Real World Data & Digital Health Working Group. In 2023 he was recognized as fellow of ESMO (FESMO).
