History

Cairo Oncology Center (Cairo Cure) was founded in 1992 by Prof. Dr. Hamdy A. Azim, who built a multidisciplinary team who have managed to maintain their state-of-the-art work throughout the past 31 years.

It is considered to be one of the biggest private oncology centres in the Middle East. With a vision to be the leader in the field of oncology and palliative care in the Middle East, the centre does its best to offer patients a unique service through its highly-qualified medical team, a strong commitment to quality and a well-established medical infrastructure.

Profile

Cairo Oncology Center provides care to around 1,900 new patients each year and more than 35,000 patients under follow up. The team consists of 22 certified physicians in different specialties dedicated to the care of cancer patients: medical oncology, radiation oncology, haemato-oncology, palliative care, pain management and nutrition along with eight certified clinical pharmacists, a certified psychologist, rehabilitation, physiotherapy specialist and five certified nurses.

Ambulatory chemotherapy unit: the unit is equipped with all the required facilities for safe and accurate delivery of chemotherapy (e.g: electronic infusion pumps and scalp coolers).

Chemotherapy is prepared in a sterile chemotherapy admixing room by the clinical pharmacy team, delivered by highly-trained specialised nurses and continuously supervised by a certified medical oncologist.

Outpatient clinics: provide services to 20-40 patients every day by a high-caliber certified cancer specialists and consultants through different specialised clinics.

Inpatient: This includes 35 beds located offsite. The inpatient section is served with a dedicated clinical pharmacy unit, radiology facilities including computed tomography, 24-hour labs, intensive care unit, kidney dialysis and physiotherapy. Radiological and laboratory services are available within the same facility, providing diagnostic services as well as minor interventional procedures.

Palliative and Supportive Care

Palliative care services are provided by a large team headed by palliative care specialist trained in oncology. The team is also supported by a physiotherapist, a nutrition specialist, a psycho-oncology specialist, a pain management specialist, a social worker and two specialised nurses. The centre provides all the services that patients might need, including home visits by a specialised home healthcare team.
