These two hematologists will be integrated in the environment of a very friendly city, an ambitious University Hospital and a very dynamic Department of Hematology. In addition, the CHU of Liège created in 2014 a new Cancer Institute whose current chair is the Head of Hematology, and is building a state-of-the-art 23,500 sqm Integrated Cancer Center for ambulatory cancer care and research, due to open at the end of 2018.

The Department of Hematology’s values encompass quality and compassionate clinical care, a robust team spirit with multidisciplinary approach, standardized procedures and evidence-based clinical guidelines, a global quality management, and a strong emphasis on clinical and translational research. Analysis of patient outcome has shown consistently better results that the Belgian national average, underlying the quality of clinical care provided.

We have developed a strong program of clinical and translational research, particularly in hematopoietic cell transplantation and cell therapy, myeloma and erythropoiesis, offering strong opportunities for developing research activities. These projects also take place in our two subsidiaries, the Laboratory of Cell and Gene Therapy and the Hematology lab in the GIGA-Research Institute of the University of Liège. We have JACIE, FACT-Netcord and FAHMP certifications, as well as GMP certification for the production of ATMPs.
